Since day one, G.I.R.L.S. Rock Sacramento has existed due to the hard work of many dedicated volunteers and seasonal crew members. This incredible community of musicians, artists, educators, youth advocates, activists, alumni, family, and friends work year-round to keep our programs running.
If you have the energy, drive, and enthusiasm to devote to GRS, please consider getting involved! In addition to music, we need volunteers with a wide range of skills for a variety of different tasks; we’re sure you’ll find something that suits your interests and abilities! We need folks who are self-motivated and task-oriented who can make a commitment to setting goals and seeing them through. We strongly encourage folks 18+ who are BIPOC, identify as women, trans, or gender-expansive of all abilities to apply, and some jobs are paid a weekly salary.
We have many opportunities available to serve specifically at our summer youth camps. Be sure to carefully read through the job descriptions below, and complete the application at the bottom of the page!

MINI CAMP (campers age 8-11) - week-long summer day camp
TEEN CAMP (campers age 12-17) - week-long summer day camp
LIBERATION ROCK CAMP (adult campers) - Spring and Fall, annually
YEAR-ROUND VOLUNTEERING
CAMP COUNSELOR | (Not currently hiring) No music experience necessary, Mon-Fri 9:30-4:30, Sat 10-1 (tentative), 1-2 positions available. $350-$500 weekly salary.
You will serve as a mentor to all campers (age 7-17), make sure they are where they need to be at all times, and attend the debrief meeting each day. Camp Counselors with musical experience may also coach campers on their instruments throughout the day and during rehearsals. Women-identifying, non-binary, and gender-expansive folks welcome.
INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTOR | (Not currently hiring) Music experience required, Mon-Fri mornings (1-2 spots for each instrument). $350-$500 weekly salary.
Our campers vary in ages (7-17) and skill levels, and many have never touched a musical instrument in their lives. Now it is time to teach them what you know. You may do some collaborative large-group teaching, as well as small-group sessions (generally 6-10 students per teacher). You can also meet or email with your fellow instrument instructors at least once before orientation to decide on a curriculum and what style and level of experience each instructor is comfortable teaching. This position combines well with band coach or workshop leader for a full day’s workload. We are looking for guitar, bass, vocal, keyboards, and drums. Instrument instructors, although part-time, must be available every day of camp with no exceptions. Women-identifying, non-binary, and gender expansive folks welcome.
BAND COACH | (Not currently hiring) Songwriting/Instrument knowledge needed, Mon-Fri late morning/afternoons. Sat late morning to early afternoon. Approximately 6-7 positions available. $350-$700 weekly salary.
Band coaches are assigned one band to help prepare a song for the Showcase. You will help the campers during band selection on the first day and assist them each camp day in learning how to write a song and play as a group, both musically and inter-personally. This position combines well with instrument instructor or workshop leader for a full day’s workload. Women-identifying, non-binary, and gender expansive folks welcome.
WORKSHOP PRESENTER | No musical experience necessary.
Each of our workshops values developing life skills and self-esteem, as well as encouraging creativity, self-expression, and awareness. Examples of workshops that have been taught at other rock camps: Self-Defense, Image & Identity, Songwriting, Anti-racism, Yoga, Music Marketing, Gender Justice, Yoga, and Band T-Shirt Screen Printing. Must be available to teach a 30 to 45-minute session on the day of your scheduled workshop (workshop dates and times TBA). Women, non-binary, and gender expansive folks welcome. $200-$500 stipend available per workshop.
LUNCHTIME PERFORMERS | (Not currently hiring) Musical experience necessary, Part-Time (M-TH, 11:30am-1:30pm). $200-$500 stipend available.
Perform a brief set for the campers during lunchtime, followed by a Q&A session. All genres considered. Bands must be at least 50% women, non-binary, or gender-expansive, and all music presented must be PG-13. GRS provides full PA and backline if requested.
CAMP PHOTOGRAPHER | (Not currently hiring) No musical experience necessary, Part-Time or Full-Time. Variable stipends available.
Take photos during camp including band photos for the showcase.
VIDEOGRAPHER | (Not currently hiring) No musical experience necessary, Part-Time throughout camp. Variable stipends available.
Get video during camp including band interviews for the showcase promos. Promo videos must be ready in time to use during the Saturday Showcase. The videos can be a montage of weekly camp activities, and/or a brief introduction of the bands that will be performing including interviews.
VIBE TRIBE | No musical experience necessary, Part-Time (Before & after camp, dates/times TBD). Volunteer position.
Help load in/out of camp. Set up and decorate the camp space.
ROADIE | No musical experience necessary, Part-Time or Full-Time (several spots available). Volunteer position.
Help set-up, breakdown, and move equipment throughout the week. Responsibilities include: re-configuring spaces for band practice every day, and helping with load in/out of camp. There is a lot of flexibility with this position. All genders and all folks welcome.
FRONT DESK/RECEPTIONIST | No musical experience necessary, Part-Time or Full-Time (5-10 spots available). Volunteer position.
The receptionist assists with Monday morning camper registration, check-in and check-out of the campers every day, monitors visitors, handles phone calls, coordinates in-camp communication, gives directions, answers questions, and sells showcase tickets and camp merchandise. There is a lot of flexibility with this position. All genders and all folks welcome.
FLOATERS/RUNNERS | Music experience not required, Any Days, Any Time. Volunteer position.
These volunteers are called upon for to help with any last minute needs, runs to stores, filling in for another volunteer, generally lending a hand as necessary. Floaters must have a car and a cell phone. There is a lot of flexibility with this position. All genders and all folks welcome.
NURSE/DOCTOR | No musical experience necessary, Part-Time or Full-Time (1 spot available)
Available throughout the day as a point person for medical emergencies, minor accidents, helping campers with special medical needs, and prescriptions. Women-identifying, non-binary, and gender expansive folks welcome.
SHOWCASE CREW | No musical experience necessary, Part-Time (8-spots available). Volunteer position.
Volunteers will work merch and info tables, sell tickets, fold programs, green room assistance, stage hands, and help to ensure that all aspects of the showcase concert run smoothly. Must be available for the day of the showcase. All genders and all folks welcome.
LOADING CREW | No music experience necessary, Part-Time
Help load in the gear the weekend before camp starts and load the gear out at the end of camp week. This position also includes prepping for camp week – setting up/breaking down equipment and the space, as well as cleaning and organizing the space so it looks exactly the way we received it! This volunteer position is open to anyone who is interested in giving their time!
YEAR-ROUND VOLUNTEERING | No music experience necessary
Helping out at tabling events, special performances, fundraisers, and more!
General responsibilities for all crew and volunteers, especially those who are at camp every day, may include attending a mandatory orientation session via Zoom or in person. Band coaches, instrument instructors, and others who work directly with campers every day may also be asked to complete a background check.
